Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) and Unicontrol recently announced their intention to partner to introduce the software company’s 3D machine control technology in Volvo excavators.
- The partnership will allow Volvo CE to ensure its advanced technology is made open, accessible and easy to use for improved efficiency.
- Offering one interface with one set of hardware, the technology has been designed for effortless integration into Volvo excavators.
- The Unicontrol 3D system will be available in select European markets later this year, with plans for it to be rolled out globally at a later date.
The Volvo Co-Pilot will be used as the primary user interface, allowing operators to access Unicontrol3D directly from the Co-Pilot, eliminating the need for additional monitors or hardware installations.

When customers order Co-Pilot with Dig Assist from the factory, all necessary hardware and software are installed. The only additional step needed is to activate the Unicontrol3D application, making it easier than ever to get started.
L5 Navigation (L5) has been the exclusive partner of Unicontrol in Sweden, Norway and Finland since 2021. This means that when the software is fully integrated and launched, L5 - in collaboration with local Volvo dealers – will take care of everything from commissioning and training to support.
"...we will be able to increase the value for the end customer even more..."
"This exciting news will allow even more users to access this fantastic 3D software. We also believe that we will be able to increase the value for the end customer even more thanks to the support we can provide through our strong support organization."
Said Johan Spector, Operations Manager, L5 Navigation.
L5 has been selling the L5 U3D-X machine control system for excavators, based on the Unicontrol3D software, since March 1, 2021. Over 1,000 systems have been delivered in the Nordics, which is clear proof that the software is both proven and appreciated. L5 U3D-X will continue to be sold and can be installed on all makes and models of excavators.
